Common cost of products
HDD hard drive
1TB $55-$120
This is your typical spinning hard drive. Most computers come with them due to how cheap they've become. Cheaper models tend to not last as long and lack a little in speed. These will eventually fail but can last 5-10 years of regular use if the computer is kept clean.
Slowest option on speed. Best storage capacity for the price.
SSD hard drive
500gb $130-$180
Newer digital drives. These are smaller, quieter and at least 5-6 times faster than HDD drives. They do cost more though. Probably the best thing you can switch to in order to speed up your computer.
Faster than HDD drives. Less likely to fail even with heavy use. Still, an investment but are dropping in price yearly. I recommend pairing a low capacity SSD with a high capacity HDD in desktop computers for the best price for performance.
M.2 drive
500gb $135 SATA $200 nVME
These drives are the newest on the market available for consumers. The SATA drives will give around the same performance as a typical SSD with a slight speed increase. nVME is probably 5 times faster than SATA. They, however, are not always interchangeable and not all devices can use them.
Super small and fast. They're low profile only being about the size of a sick of gum. Most new motherboards and even a number of laptops are able to start taking them.
RAM (Memory)
DDR3 8GB $70-$115 DDR4 8GB $90-$200
This is your short-term memory or working memory of the computer. The more RAM the faster and more actions and multitasking can be completed. A laptop running windows needs at least 4GB of RAM. A desktop should have at least 8GB of RAM with 16 or more for heavier work and multitasking. Different computers use different RAM and there is a limited number of slots.
Laptop Screen
$60-$140
A common repair item. Pricing varies depending on the company and shipping times when ordered.
Laptop Keyboard
$25-$50
Not all keyboards on new computers can be replaced. Those that can usually fall in this price range.
